The Big Ben will compete with the Tower of Pisa
Quiet. It is being carried forward to the two monuments and place them side by side to see which one attracts more attention. According to experts, Big Ben would imtando to the Tower of Pisa because since it was built in 1853, the famous clock has shifted two feet from the perpendicular axis.
Some tourists had already questioned the verticality of the monument and the experts have had to give them reason. Professors at Imperial College London have made calculations and found that the tower is tilted toward the northwest 0’26 degrees. That is, the top is 43’5 inches from the perpendicular.
The cause of this collapse are underground work being carried out and cause the soil to yield to pressure. The slope is imperceptible to most people but Mike McCann, in charge of maintenance of the tower has explained how we see it: “Standing on the floor quite flat and head right.” It is of great help, really.
However, the Tower of Pisa can breathe easy. Even within 4000 years, Big Ben will not get the four degrees of inclination of the Italian monument.
