Tourism in England – The Tower of London

The Tower of London is one of the attractions of London’s most popular and iconic. Founded by William the Conqueror in early 1080. The role of Torres was like a fortress, palace and prison.

One of the main reasons to travel to London and visit the Tower is to see the collection of Crown Jewels. There are 23,578 pieces in the collection that includes one of the most famous diamonds in the world. Find out who dared to try to steal the jewels in 1671 and if they succeeded.

Many people lost their heads at the Tower and the exhibition of photographs of prisoners and some of the inmates such as Anne Boleyn, Edward V, Guy Fawkes and Sir Thomas More. The story of the Tower as a prison continued during the two world wars and even held performances.

There is so much to see at the Tower including the “Yeomen of the Guard”, the armor of the Ravens, Henry VIII, instruments of torture in Lower Wakefield Tower and Traitors Gate.

The nearest tube station is Tower Hill on the Circle and District lines underground. Tower Gateway Station on the Docklands Light Railway is also within walking distance.
